About ForumBIE 2030
Over the course of 2017, the Education Relief Foundation (ERF) organised a series of high-level regional consultation meetings for Balanced and Inclusive Education (BIE) in Sub-Saharan Africa, South East Asia, Latin America and Europe. These regional consultations were designed to present the principles of BIE, share best practices and collate the recommendations articulated by the stakeholders. Participants included delegates from Ministries of Education, UNESCO Regional Offices, Academic Institutions and Non-Governmental Organisations.
During the I ForumBIE 2030 at the United Nations in Geneva (UNIOG), 85 policy makers and civil society representatives from around the globe endorsed the need for the development of a Global Guide of Ethics, Principles, Policies and Practices in Balanced and Inclusive Education. In 2018, just a year after the first Forum, the Education Relief Foundation (ERF), jointly with the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) of the United Mexican States, organised the II ForumBIE 2030 on the 20-22 November 2018 in Mexico City, and officially launched the Global Guide. 80 Stakeholders of SDG4 – including Ministries of Education, International Organisations, Academic Bodies, and Civil Society Organisations – from around the globe have come to attend the second high-level international conference.
The Global Guide was distributed within the context of the International Call for Balanced and Inclusive Education (BIE). A non-binding expression of a collective aspiration for the pursuit of BIE, the International Call provides the framework for the building of multilateral partnerships and the international implementation of pilots based upon the Global Guide. This Conference carried two objectives:
- To formally distribute the first edition of the Global Guide of Ethics, Principles, Policies and Practices in Balanced and Inclusive Education developed by ERF, and co-authored with international experts and other partners, on the basis of the recommendations received during ERF’s 2017 series of Regional Consultation Meetings;
- To create a framework of synergy between cross-sectorial stakeholders for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) by concluding the Conference with the International Call for Balanced and Inclusive Education, based upon the Global Guide.
The international Call, signed by the delegations, is a testimony of the commitment to Balanced and Inclusive Education worldwide. A historic agreement, an expression of passion and love for humanity: the International Call brought people together from all around the world, in a collective effort to improve and change education globally.
